Proper guinea pig care is very important because if you do not care for guinea pigs the right way they could die. I'm going to list some things you need to know about proper care for guinea pigs.
First, make sure they have plenty of food and hay. Food and hay is one of the most important things for guinea pigs.
Second, make sure your guinea pig has plenty of water. But remember to put vita drops in it. Vita drops have vitamin c in it. It is important to put vita drops in the water because guinea pigs can not produce vitamin c themselves.
Third, they need toys. Toys are important for guinea pigs because it gives them something to chew on and play with make sure it is edible unless it is a run about ball or a running wheel or stuff like that. I would recommend getting them a chew-able wooden tunnel or a fleece tunnel because it gives something to go through and hide in. Also you should get little chew balls which are basically wooden sticks all twisted together with a small treat stuck in the middle.
Fourth, you should trim their nails about 1-2 times a week because if their nails get too long it could hurt their feet and make them ache all over. You should trim their front and back claws.
Fifth, you should check their bodies for sores, cuts or bald spots. If you find any of these rub it with a very mild antiseptic like Neosporin.
Sixth, Check their teeth. Make sure their teeth are not longer than the other or make sure that their teeth are bottom teeth are not grown/pushed against the top teeth. If they are take them to a vet that specializes in exotic pets like guinea pigs. I would NOT recommend you trim their teeth yourself because something can happen and you accidentally cut their tongue or jaw.
Seventh, make sure that they have plenty of attention. If you want your guinea pig to trust you and get to know you; you need to give plenty of love attention. One way to do that is to take them out of their cage and give them lap time. Lap time is basically putting a pillow or something very soft on your lap and letting the guinea pig walk on your lap. There is also floor time. Floor time is when you put toys on the floor and a play pen if the open floor is not safe and let it do what it wants on the floor i would recommend putting a blanket on the floor so the guinea pig does not pee and poop on the floor. Make sure they have toys in their cages as well.
